Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday once again pushed for his government’s cleanliness drive urging students across the country to join the government’s Swachh Bharat summer internship programme.
In his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, he invited college students, NCC cadets, NSS jawans and other youngsters to participate in the central government’s newly-launched Swachh Bharat Summer internship programme.
“Government ministries have come together and started a Swachh Bharat summer internship 2018... I invite youngsters to participate in the internship,” says Modi. “Those who do well during the internship will be felicitated on the national level. The best interns will be awarded. The UGC will give them credit points.”
“This is an opportunity for those young people who wish to contribute to the country, bring about a change in society and learn something in the process,” he said.
The internship is an initiative of the Sports, Human Resource Development (HRD) and Water Ministry.
According to HRD ministry’s guidelines, students during the period of internship need to adopt one or more villages and undertake welfare activities. The internship will be of 100 hours from May 1 to July 31, 2018.
The eligible students can apply on the official website. The internship is open only to students from the higher education institutes. Institutes have also been directed to appoint an officer for guiding students throughout the internship programme.
Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat campaign on October 2, 2014 across the country as a national movement.
